Lee Emanuel Freer was born in Goldendale, Washington on Dec. 9, 1938 to Harry and Esther (Smith) Freer. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Goldendale High School. Lee served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on November 25, 1964. He married Evelyn Jean Smith on July 4, 1969 in Goldendale and the couple made their home there.

Mr. Freer worked at Klickitat Lumber Mill, and after the mill closed he worked in Biggs. He also attended pharmacy school. Lee was a devoted church member of the Goldendale Church of the Nazarene and was also a member of the American Legion. Lee loved reading and sports. He was always active with his church and had a heart for missions, often hosting missionaries and their families.

Lee passed away in Portland, Oregon on Sept. 12, 2017 at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Jean, his parents, five sisters, two brothers, two nieces, and one nephew. He is survived by sister-in-law Patricia; seven nephews Earl, Lewis, Howard, Bennie, David, Frankie and Lloyd, Jr .; seven nieces Joyce, Judy, Ann, Ellen, Kelli, Marnita and Rebecca; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and his church family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 at the Goldendale Church of the Nazarene, with interment at the Mountain View IOOF Cemetery. Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. Condolences to Lee's family may be sent by visiting
