Errol H. Schnider, 79, of Centerville died Oct. 22, while elk hunting at Lord Flat in Wallowa County.

Errol was born Dec. 23, 1937, to Henry and Elizabeth Schnider in Lewiston, Idaho. He graduated from high school in Cottonwood, Idaho. He attended the University of Idaho and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics.

On April 21, 1971, he married Margret A. Martin in Reno, Nevada. They moved to Madras in 1971, and lived there most of their lives. Errol’s life career was in financial banking. He was a loan officer for U.S. Bank, president of Citizens Bank of Madras, and a full-time rancher. Errol was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and rancher who enjoyed camping, fi shing and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by wife, Margret A. Schnider of Centerville; daughters, Dorcas (John) Gawlista of Portland, and Rachel (Steve Leese) Schnider of San Jose, California; three grandchildren, Jacob (Kristin) Gawlista, Parker Elsey, and Elyssa Elsey; and former spouse, Shirley Phillips of Nezperce, Idaho. Errol was preceded in death by grandson, Aaron Gawlista.

A celebration of life will be held Nov. 11, at 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Madras.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Celilo Cancer Center, 1800 E.19th St., The Dalles, 97058, can be made in his name as a way to thank all the kind people who cared for him during his treatment.

The family hopes that anyone who has a story to share will write it down and, if able, read it during the service. The family would like to compile these stories in a keepsake album.
