Trout Lake freshman Hannah Funkhouser, right, stands in the third place slot on the podium with her medal during the awards ceremony on Saturday in Pasco.

Trout Lake freshmen Hannah Funkhouser and Justin Peck ran to impressive finishes on Saturday at the state Class 2B/1B cross country meet, and were joined by fellow Mustang freshman Gabe Harpe and Bickleton's Michael Gannon and Christian Arriaga on the cold Saturday afternoon in Pasco.

Funkhouser cruised to a third place finish among the field of 78 in the girls race, finishing in 19 minutes, 19.4 seconds in what should be her first of four appearances at the state meet.

Bickleton freshman Christian Arriaga runs around one of the turns during the Class 2B/1B state meet on Saturday afternoon at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

She was the only Klickitat County runner on the girls side, and watched as Trout Lake teammate Peck ran to sixth place overall during the boys race, finishing in 16:34.4. Peck was the only freshman to finish in the top 17, and was .4 away from finishing in the top five. Harpe, another Mustang freshman, came in at 45th in 18:00.4.

Gannon, a Bickleton junior, made his second straight appearance at state, finishing in 45th among the field of 154 runners. He stopped the timers at 17:58.5, a personal record and just over a minute faster than his state time last season.

Arriaga also earned a bid at state with his top 20 finish at last week's District 6 Championships, and finished his first trip to state with a 19:08.7 time for 112th overall.

Expect to see all five at state again next year, along with a handful of their teammates from both of the Class 1B programs.
