Klickitat sophomore, Savannah Green, shown as a freshman throwing the javelin during last season's state track and field meet in Cheney, was selected by Down Under Sports to represent Washington at next year's Down Under International Games in Australia.

Klickitat High School's Savannah Green, a sophomore for the Vandals, has been invited to represent Washington at the 2018 Down Under International Games in Australia.

Green, who competes on the volleyball, basketball, and track and field teams in Klickitat, was chosen to the track and field team that will represent the United States next summer in Queensland, Australia.

The Down Under International Track and Field Games have ran every year since 2000, and 700 athletes from around the globe competed in last year's track and field games in Australia.

Green, last year as a freshman, was one of 16 Class 1B javelin throwers to advance to the WIAA Class 1A, 2B, and 1B State Championship Meet in Cheney, where she finished on the podium in eighth place. Her throw of 106 feet, 10 inches back on May 27 was her best throw ever, and just two inches shy of the seventh place finisher.

She also competed in the 100 meter hurdles and was on a pair of relay teams for the Vandals last season, reaching districts but just falling short of advancing to the state meet.

She also is one of the school's cheerleaders, changing outfits after her the girls basketball game to cheer on the Vandal boys. Green also gets it done in the classroom, compiling a 3.78 grade point average so far in high school.

Green has a while to prepare for the meet, and is set to fly to Australia on July 8, 2018. Until then, she will be hard at work fundraising for the trip.

Each participant must raise money to cover the cost of the ten day Australia Tournament Package. Fundraising is an important step to achieve the goal of competing on the international stage, and she has already begun her fundraising efforts through T-Shirt sales and sponsorship donations. Online sponsorship donations can be made at:

The 2018 Down Under Sports program will include competition in football, cross country, golf, track and field, basketball, and volleyball. Down Under Sports' goal is to continue to provide athletes who excel in their sport the opportunity to experience the culture, beauty, and grandeur of the land down under all within the framework of spirited and intense competition.
