The grant, which was introduced to students at a Goldendale Middle School assembly Nov. 17, will go to help this year's GHS graduating classes of 2023 and 2024, or this year's sixth and seventh graders. Via the GEAR UP program – which aims to target first generation students from families with no history of family members attending college – the school district will receive money for the classes of 2023 and 2024 until they graduate from GHS. "The purpose of the grant is to target schools and areas that have a high population of kids that would fit that description," Goldendale Assistant Site Coordinator Candy McCredy said.
