Tough, gritty Goldendale grapplers open season Saturday in Yakima

In earlier years, Goldendale head wrestling coach Matt Dumolt was used to having a lot of kids sign up for wrestling only to see about half of the athletes drop the sport after the first week or so of practice. He calls that the wash out.

But this year the wash out was minimal, with 18 of the 20 kids who signed up still grinding away on the mats as the season-opening match quickly approaches.

"The kids that are there (at practice every day) are tough," Dumolt said. "They're willing to stick it out and step up at practice."

"Wrestling practice isn't a cake walk," he added. "As far as character of the team, we're super strong."
