Come watch the tree lighting

December 6, 2017

It’s time to light our tree. The Community Christmas Tree is located near the Glenwood General Store and the lighting ceremony will take at 5 p.m. on Dec. 9. Everyone is welcome to come watch the lighting and sing some carols around the tree.

The Klickwood (Klickitat/Glenwood) girls’ and boys’ basketball teams traveled to Arlington on Friday, Dec. 1 for a two-day tournament. The first day, both teams lost their games to the teams from Joseph, Oregon. We were sorry to hear that senior player Easton Atchley dislocated his ankle early in the first game and may be out for several games. We hope you’re mending well and will soon be back on the court, Easton. On Saturday, both teams easily won their games against Four Rivers. These games gave the non-starting members of the team some court time to gain more experience. Way to go, Klickwood!

Here are several more upcoming December basketball games to mark on your calendars. On Dec. 7, the high school girls’ basketball team will have a home game at Glenwood against Stevenson at 6 p.m. The middle school teams will travel to Trout Lake on the 7th with game start time at 5:30 p.m. The high school teams will play against Glenwood alumni on Saturday, the 9th. Any alumni wishing to play should contact Toni at the school, (509) 364-3438. The high school will then play Dufur at home in Klickitat on the 12th at 6 p.m.

On the 11th and 14th, the middle school teams will have home games against Bickleton and Centerville, respectively. Those games will also begin at 5:30 p.m. There’s a lot going on in December, but let’s hope for great turnouts to support our Klickwood basketball teams.

The Christmas concert will be Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m. This is always a very special night, watching the children dressed in their best, performing, and enjoying the fun night. The Glenwood Homemakers will serve cookies and hot cocoa after the program and we’ve been told Santa will be there to hear some Christmas wishes.

The Glenwood Community Church Adventure Club will be caroling on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. This is something the whole community will enjoy. Thank you, Adventure Club.

The Glenwood school Christmas dinner will be Dec. 19. Contact Toni at the school office, (509) 364-3438, to reserve your spot at dinner. This will be a full day of school. After the dinner, the students will walk down town to decorate the community Christmas tree. The last day of school before Christmas break will be a half day on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Mark Wiltz informed us he is moving his business, WindPaddle, into the Bird Creek Inn as of Jan. 1, 2018. If you get a chance, stop in and see what his business is all about. It will be nice to have activity in that empty spot once again.

Doug Daniels reports that we received a total of 6.55 inches of rain in November. The November high for the last 22 years of record-keeping was 12.6 inches in 2006. The 22-year low was 0.7 inches in 2004. The 22-year average is 4.85. Thanks, Doug, for providing this information. I think we all felt we were definitely over the average in November. There seemed to be lots of standing water in the fields. It’s probably getting to that time of year when Bill Henderson will be turning his sharks loose out in his pasture.
