LETTERS FROM THE COMMUNITY

It's party-GOP and Roy Moore-over country! That is very, very sad!

David McDevitt is the clear choice to represent the people of southwest Washington in the 3rd congressional district in 2018. A veteran with a law degree, David is passionate about helping those who have been under-represented in the past: veterans, seniors, college students facing crippling educational debt, and everyday laborers barely able to provide for their families. David knows that the middle class worker has lost ground over the last several decades and he is committed to helping working families to get relief.

What impresses me most is Mr. McDevitt's unwillingness to pander to corporations and special interests who all too often buy influence in Congress through large campaign donations. We need a man of integrity like David, who will not be beholden to special interests and large corporate donors. I have witnessed him working tirelessly to preserve affordable health care and the rights of the common man and woman. I heartily endorse McDevitt for Congress!

I don't want to insult anybody's intelligence but still feel compelled to state the obvious: If US congressional members are forced to resign by sexual harassment charges, what about our president?

Congressional Democrats have generally been willing to force resignations, including those of their own offending party members. But considerably more pressure is required by congressional Republicans to effect the president's resignation. Unfortunately, as pointed out in a prominent eastern Washington newspaper's editorial on Dec. 7, there is a double standard among most congressional Republicans: offending Democrats should resign but not Republicans. Once again congressional Republicans choose political gain over ethics and morality.

The good news is that we can change all this by electing Democrats to replace Republicans in Congress in 2018.
