OLESS has project update

December 20, 2017

There are still a few photos of children visiting Santa posted on the Lyle P.O. bulletin board. Pinned on the board is also a baby’s white satin slipper/shoe found at closing. I hope it gets back to its rightful owner. Don’t let me down, folks. The photos could be a keepsake for your little one’s memory book.

The Old Lyle Elementary School Supporters (OLESS) board has an end-of-the year update on projects made possible thanks to the Washington State grant awarded for restorations to the Lyle Activity Center building. The new metal roof has been completed on both the east and west sides of the building in time to keep us dry during the winter rains and snows! A soffit for the eastside overhang will be added soon. New energy efficient windows have been delivered and will be installed over the next few months in all classrooms and hallways. For 2018 the board will be researching an effective and efficient HVAC system. The board is also soliciting for bids for new bathroom stalls, so they can say goodbye to the classy shower curtain that has served as a stall door in the girls’ bathroom and other funky fixtures! A number of smaller improvements are also planned with the remaining grant funds. OLESS looks forward to seeing more community activities, classes and meetings at the Lyle Activity Center. Everyone is welcome to the monthly OLESS meetings, typically the first Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m. Check the web site lyleactivitycenter.com for the next meeting time, or to rent a space, and other Lyle Activity Center news.

Our county is participating in a regional planning effort which includes Clark, Skamania, and Klickitat County to develop a social marketing campaign related to preventing opioid abuse. Their regional team is working with Social Marketing expert Nancy Lee over the next six months to guide their work and ensure that the messages they develop have an impact! To ensure they develop a message that meets the needs of Klickitat County they are putting together a regional group. If you would like to be a part of this group contact Rita Pinchot. This is a great opportunity to learn about Social Marketing and impact specific behaviors related to opioid abuse in our county.

As my next week’s column will fall on or near Christmas Day, I want to wish you all the very Merriest of Christmas’ and may the Reason for the Season bring you great tidings of all that is good for you and yours; and in the coming New Year. May His Blessing flow over you like a hot shower on a winter day!
