Polar Plunge set for 11th straight year on New Year's Day

Looking for a different New Year's resolution, or maybe a fresh start to the year? Or wanting to give yourself a quick jolt after a late New Year's Eve party?

If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, the 2018 Polar Plunge might be for you.

For the last 10 years, the Central Klickitat County Park and Recreation District has hosted the Polar Plunge for anyone looking to make a splash to start the New Year.

For those unaware of what the Polar Plunge is, whoever's interested meets at Maryhill State Park at 10 a.m. New Year's Day and takes a quick plunge into the Columbia River.

It is up to the participants how far they want to go. You can roll up your pants and get your feet wet or go all out and completely submerge yourself in the frigid water, the choice is yours.

Registration is $10 or $30 for registration and a T-shirt. Donations are welcome and encouraged and go to support the Central Klickitat Park and Recreation District. Funds help with scholarships, swimming lessons when the pool opens, and more.

Registration runs from 9:15-9:55 a.m. at Maryhill State Park and is followed by a short pre-plunge welcome and safety talk. Don't be late though, the plunge starts at 10 a.m. is usually is over within a matter of seconds.

Since New Year's Day is a free admission day to all Washington State Parks, you won't need to have a Discover Pass nor pay admission the park.

Warm beverages will be provided and the event usually is finished by 10:20 a.m. according to Central Klickitat County Park and Recreation District Manager Lori Anderson.
