High school students hold do-it-yourself fundraiser

GENEROUS INITIATIVE: Leslie Smith (left) and Josie Quantrell undertook personal initiatives to raise much-needed funds for Backpacks for Kids.

Two freshman Goldendale High School (GHS) students raised a much-needed $540 for the Back Pack for Kids program of Klickitat County by holding a bake sale fundraiser as part of a class project for their Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) class.

Josie Quantrell and Leslie Smith both are passionate about the program and say the best part about giving back is seeing the reactions when they receive a back pack full of food each week on Fridays.

"It is nice to see the smiles on the kids' faces when they get their backpack," Quantrell says. "Just seeing how much help people need it was a big motivator to choose this project."
