On last Friday, just as the Bickleton stage had reached the long decline a few miles this side of Dot post office and the team was going at a good brisk gate, one of the single trees became detached and striking the horse on the heels set him to running. There were no passengers on the stage and Frank Hanshew was driving, and throwing all his weight on the lines endeavored to prevent the tongue from falling, in which event a general smashup would certainly have been the result. He was successful in preventing the tongue from falling but he did not seem to have any effect on the horses for they continued to run, when all at once the stage upset.
