Ogden mission fundraiser coming

On Saturday, March 10, the 2018 optometric mission team will be hosting a turkey dinner and floor show fundraiser at the Goldendale Middle School, 520 E. Collins. The turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, will be served at 6 p.m. During the meal a live four-piece orchestra will play musical selections from 1900 to the 1980s. There is no admission charge, but a free-will offering will be taken to benefit this year's mission, which is to be in Kompong Thom Province, Cambodia, from March 14 to March 25.

Team members from Goldendale are: Ordell and Shirley Enstad, Dr. Mike Garnett, Betty Zesiger, and Dr. James Ogden. David Haney, from Athens, Tennessee, will also join the group. The expenses of the dinner are covered by the team, so the entire collection goes to the 2018 mission project. A dentist from Cambodia plans to work with the group, so patients will have dental, medical, and optometric care available to them. Cambodian friends from previous projects in that country will be making local arrangements and also work as facilitators and translators.

The featured entertainment at this year's optometric fundraiser will be the Columbia Gorge Concert Band, a group of about 50 musicians from the mid-Columbia area that is directed by Larry Loop of The Dalles. Their 40-minute performance will be in the Middle School gym and will begin immediately after the dinner, shortly after 7 p.m. The band performs a wide variety of music, including symphonic band arrangements, marches, classical works, musical theater, and original compositions. The group performs indoor and outdoor concerts for a variety of festivals, events, and special occasions in locations throughout the Gorge. Anyone wishing to hear the band but not come to the dinner are welcome at attend the concert only.
