FFA 'plant pals' at work

PALS WITH PLANTS: Vanaesa Ontiveros teaching Mrs. Kayser's second grade class how to make and put together a model flower.

Three Goldendale FFA members, Kyhlie Linder, Denice Owen and Vanaesa Ontiveros, have been teaching second graders about plants for the past two months as part of an FFA Leadership Development Event. The event is called FARM that encourages FFA chapters within Washington State to develop and implement "outreach" programs. These programs engage and ultimately educate K-6 students in their schools through activities or presentations related to agriculture.

Each week the three ladies met on Wednesdays to schedule and plan out their lessons as well as prepare their materials. The next day, they taught the other FFA members in their plant biology class how to teach the lessons and how to do al...
