Crime down, says police chief


Short and sweet were the watchwords for Monday night’s City Council meeting, which clocked in at a spare 26 minutes.

The only action item on the agenda was a unanimous vote on an agreement with Evergreen Rural Water of Washington. This is a nonprofit group that performs smoke testing of sewer systems for free but does insist on a formal agreement before beginning work. City Administrator Larry Bellamy said in a memo included in the council packet that Goldendale has what he termed “an excessive amount” of stormwater entering the sanitary sewer system through cracks or connections that are not authorized but are very hard to find. “When ground conditions are dry,” he wrote, “fi...
