Your board is wrestling with financial issues. As many of you know, our levy rate is not adequate to keep up with operating an ambulance service in today’s reimbursement climate. Reimbursement is one of the most confusing issues surrounding the medical industry. While our established rate is upwards to $2,000 for an Advance Life Support transport, less than 0.05 percent ever pay that. Over 98 percent of our revenue comes from Medicare and Medicaid. This reimbursement ranges from between $150-600 dollars for a transport. This is pretty standard in the ambulance industry and the only way to increase revenue is to run more calls while trying to operate more efficiently.
