Rise in uninsured drivers a concern

The percentage of uninsured drivers in Washington increased by 8 percent from 2012 to 2015, according to the Insurance Research Council (IRC). The latest study, Uninsured Motorists, 2017 Edition, shows Washington’s 2015 uninsured motorist rate at 17.4 percent compared to 16.1 percent in 2012. The study also places Washington at seventh highest in the country for uninsured drivers.

Nationwide, one in eight drivers on the road was uninsured in 2015, according to the study, with the national uninsured motorist average at 13 percent.
