Elk hoof disease in Washington State

Since 2008, reports of elk with deformed, broken, or missing hooves have increased dramatically in southwest Washington, with sporadic observations in other areas west of the Cascade Range. But last Monday the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) reported that, for the first time, elk with the disease have been spotted in eastern Washington State, including Klickitat County, mostly in the Trout Lake area. WDFW is offering tips to hunters and others on what to do if these animals are observed.
