County late fees can be very taxing

ACT NOW: Very few people get this notice in the mail from the Treasurer's Office.

Didn't pay your county taxes in time? You could have been hit with a sharp penalty, and some who've endured such a fate sometimes wonder why, and why the county can't fix the problem if they feel it wasn't their fault. Late fees don't happen often, though they can incense those who get them. County Treasurer Greg Gallagher says his office does everything possible to head them off.

"The taxes are sent out via the mail," Gallagher says. "We try to get them in the mail by the end of February, beginning of March.
