'Low-risk' fire camp escapee sentenced

 


A frightening and much-publicized chapter in the history of the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) came to a close on June 18 with the 15-month sentence imposed on Maksim Petrovskiy for Escape in the First Degree.

Petrovskiy, along with another inmate, Tyray Munter, escaped from a DOC fire camp set up in the City of Goldendale by the Department of Corrections last summer. In April, Mr. Munter was sentenced to an additional 53 months on top of the lengthy prison sentence he was already serving. Incredibly, DOC thought inmate Munter was low-risk enough to be let out to a fire camp, even though he had eight prior felony convictions and was serving about a six-year sentence for...
