Lori Smith, lifetime educator, leader and student advocate named as Lyle Principal

The Lyle School Board, following a short executive session, at their special meeting on June 15 considered the qualifications of long-term Lyle educator Lori Smith and unanimously approved her contract to become the K-12 principal of the unified Lyle campus.

Board Chair Phil Williams articulated, “It is hard to imagine anyone more committed to the students in the Lyle School District than Lori. She has transformed the lives and supported the growth of hundreds of our children in her 27-year career in the district. She is exactly the right person for this job.”

Smith earned her BA in education from Central Washington University and her MA in educational leadership from Heritage University. She completed her administrative internship during the 2017-18 school year under Superintendent/Principal Andy Kelly, who announced earlier this week that he has accepted a new position in the North Beach School District, in Ocean Shores, Washington.

Kelly reflected, “Lori’s commitment in ensuring the success of each and every student is unparalleled. She has been an integral part of leading the district turnaround and is poised to continue to lead the growth and improvements within the Lyle school community.”

Smith doesn’t have much time to relax. Her contract begins on July 1 and she is already working to facilitate an amazing school year in 2018-19. She is focused on maintaining and growing the culture, continuing to strengthen the structures to support kids and helping the staff continue to improve strategies that will allow each Lyle scholar to graduate both college and career ready.

According to Smith, “There is no place I would rather be. Lyle is my home. This district supported my children and has been an exceptional community to work and grow as a teacher. I’m honored at the confidence of our board to entrust me with the awesome responsibility of caring for our most precious commodity.”

Smith further commented, “Transitions are challenging but one thing that will not waiver is that to the best of my abilities I will continue to ensure that #ALLmeansALL”
