George Harry Brokaw

George Harry Brokaw entered this world on March 30, 1940 in Goldendale, right behind Myrtle but ahead of Peter. His parents, Peter and Clara Brokaw, had their hands full with the new triplets with three older children, Roberta, Jim, and Peggy. A little sister, Cathy, joined the crew a few years later to complete the family.

George spent his early years on the family farm and enjoyed playing sports. His love of baseball continued as an adult and he happily devoted many years to coaching youth baseball. George joined the Marines in 1959 while his brother Pete and friend Jim ditched him and signed with the Navy instead. Ever a source of humor for George and a story he relished to tell.

He married Beatrice Stone in 1964 and became the proud father of Carla, Kevin, and Keith in the coming years. While his marriage to Bea did not last, they remained friends and partnered in raising their children. George was so happy to also be involved in Sheila and Steven's lives, his children's sister and brother.

After four years in the Marines, George started and ended his working career at Boeing in Seattle. In between, George worked in the lumber industry and for the City of Goldendale. He enjoyed doing anything outdoors and taking his kids hiking, fishing, exploring caves, and going to the beach. George could fix anything as long as he had some wire, duct tape, and imagination, of which he had plenty. He loved to talk to people, and strangers soon became friends. Many heard of Bigfoot, aliens, and lost dentures that brought delight to everyone in earshot.

George lost his father when he was seven and his mother many years later. His younger sister Cathy also left this earth, so he now joins his loving family after his death on June 26, 2018 after a brief illness. George leaves behind his children, Carla, Kevin (Amy), and Keith (Mary) and his seven grandchildren Shawn, Lindsey, Chelsea, Alexa, Chase, Evan, and Trevor. He was blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Lydia, Julia, Mischa, Abram, Kohen, Asa, Shepherd, Elijah, and Lyra. George has brothers, sisters, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who remain to remember him fondly, laugh at his many jokes, and keep his memory alive so others may know him too.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of George's life on Saturday, July 28, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Goldendale, Washington at 10 a.m.
