New pastor welcomes chance to be in Goldendale


CALLED: Pastor Joyce O'Connor-Magee describes journey to ministry on Monday, July 23, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Goldendale. "We're really kind of a post-Christian world anymore, and Christians have a new mandate to reach out and love in different ways. I just get this opportunity as an ordained person, as a professional in ministry, to do it every day. To be with God's people every day and witness to that in action," says O'Connor-Magee.

In February, Pastor Joyce O'Connor-Magee received the phone call that brought her to Goldendale earlier this month. Over the past 37 years, O'Connor-Magee has been working with churches, large and small, throughout the state of Washington. When the opportunity to lead Goldendale's United Methodist Church was presented to her, she enthusiastically agreed.

"I really believe in small churches in small towns because they can be the heart of the community, and the reminder that we need to treat each other well. They're so vital," says O'Connor-Magee.

With five or six years remaining until retirement, she felt the congregation at Goldendale's United Methodist Church was an ideal fit. The church...
