Goldendale's Jim Jack Davenport, left on horse, has had some strong showings this rodeo season in the cow milking event.

The Klickitat County Fair and Rodeo is right around the corner – the rodeo runs Saturday and Sunday of this week actually – and the draw is loaded with Klickitat County cowboys and cowgirls.

Goldendale will be more than well represented again at this year's Northwest Professional Rodeo Association sanctioned event, which kicks off at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Conboy Arena with the bareback riding event. The rodeo continues Sunday morning with the slack competition at 8 a.m. before the performance continues at 1 p.m.

Twenty-seven participants from Goldendale will at some time throughout the weekend be in the arena competing, with some running in multiple events. Seven more from Centerville will be active on Friday and Saturday while two cowboys represent White Salmon, and one each from Bickleton and Glenwood.

Barrel racing

Saturday afternoon, MacKinzey Black, Tia Black, and Paige Wells, all from Goldendale, will go in the event. On Sunday, Stacy Campbell is the lone Goldendale competitor in the event.

Breakaway roping

During Saturday's session, Goldendale's Charley Thiele is the lone Goldendale cowgirl competing. On Sunday in the slack, Courtney Tatro, Kayde Jo Akins, Taylor Bradley, and Carly Tatro represent Goldendale while Centerville's Corynn Kayser also will go. When the performance resumes Sunday afternoon, Goldendale's Randee Slater will compete in the event.

Bull riding

Goldendale's Tanner Bradley is one of three competing on Saturday. Sunday afternoon, Jared Mesecher will be the last to compete in the event.

Cow milking

The event Saturday includes, from Goldendale, Wade Meske, Kane Thiele, Mike Thiele, and Cody Tobin. Center is represented by Dustin Cameron, Will Sizemore, Cole Cameron, and Cooper Mills. Glenwood's Casey Arnold also will go on Saturday.

On Sunday, Jess Kayser, Jim Jack Davenport, and Austin Bast, represent Goldendale, and Jarin Ladiges and Aaron Kreps are both competing out of White Salmon.

Saddle bronc riding

The event kicks off Saturday with Bickleton's Danny Alires as the only county rider.

Steer wrestling

Saturday, Glenwood's Casey Arnold, along with Condon's Bryce Harrison and Dufur's Beau Lewis will wrestle. There aren't any local competitors on Sunday in the event.

Team roping

Throughout both rodeo days, eight teams featuring Klickitat County ropers will compete.

Starting off Saturday, Centerville's Cole Cameron and Cooper Mills will rope and will be followed by Mike and Kane Thiele.

For Sunday morning's slack, three Goldendale teams will start it off. First up is Justin Bowman and Wade Meske, second will be Ryan Bradley and Cody Tobin, and third is Cody Slater and Brad Cameron.

After the slack when the performance kicks up again, Tom Akins and Jim Jack Davenport will compete as a team, Goldendale's Logan Siebert will partner with Stephenville's Clayton Eggers, and Kreps will join Asotin's John Mendoza to round out the county competitors.

Tygh Valley

The Klickitat County Fair and Rodeo isn't the only performance this weekend. Running Friday and Saturday, the Wasco County Rodeo in Tygh Valley also features a handful of county competitors.

The NPRA performance in Tygh Valley kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday and continues at the same time on Saturday night.

On Friday, Goldendale's Hank Thompson and White Salmon's Kreps will be the only Klickitat County residents competing Friday night. Both will go in the calf roping on Friday and Kreps will also run in the team roping event.

A few more Goldendale residents will compete when the performance continues Saturday night.

Goldendale's Jared Mesecher and Bickleton graduate Cody Loomis will go in the bull riding, while Lane and Logan Siebert both will compete in the calf roping. Logan will join Eggers for the team roping event as well.
