Police nab driver in high-speed chase

September 12, 2018

On September 5th, 2018, at approximately 7:28 PM, Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Jason Ritoch was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision that had occurred in front of the Lyle

Hotel in Lyle. A red pickup truck had ran into two parked cars in front of the Lyle Hotel and left the area.

A short time later, Ritoch was advised that the red pickup truck involved in the collision was just reported stolen.

At about 7:40 p.m., Ritoch located the above stolen pickup in the parking lot of Bud Hut at 8142 State Route 14 in Murdock.

A short time later, Ritoch was advised of shots fired and reported the driver of the truck had tried to back up into him. The driver of the stolen truck was resisting arrest. Ritoch shot the rear tire of the vehicle in an attempt to prevent the driver from leaving the area and endangering people on SR 14.

But the driver took off. He headed westbound on SR 14 in a high-speed attempt to get away.

Ritoch gave chase, and the driver wrecked the stolen pickup in the area Doug’s Beach Park on SR 14 in Lyle.

Ritoch arrested the driver, a 17-year-old male, for Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Minor in Possession of Alcohol and Driving under the influence. Ritoch may request additional charges against the suspect when the investigation is completed.

The driver was transported by ambulance across the river to Mid-Columbia Medical Center, and Deputy Tim Neher stayed with the suspect at the Medical Center until he was released. Neher then transported the juvenile to NORCOR, where he was booked into the Juvenile facility on Ritoch’s above charges.

This case is still under further investigation by Washington State Patrol and deputies from the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office.

The name of the juvenile suspect will not be released based on the fact that he is a juvenile and under further investigation.
