September 19, 2018

August 30, 1888

School opened on Monday with a larger number of pupils attending than ever before at the opening. Last year there were 97 enrolled and this year 118. A great many people are desirous of coming into town in order to give their children the benefit of the school, but there are no homes to be had. (This was 3 months after the 1888 Fire that destroyed downtown Goldendale)

August 17, 1937

A new drinking fountain was installed this week at the northwest corner of Columbus and Main Street, near the Shipp Barber and Beauty Shop. The addition to Main Street was financed by personal contributions. (fountain is still located in front of Dr. Ogden’s office)
