Bickleton boys finish third with many personal-best runs in Umatilla

Bickleton sophomore Christian Arriaga, shown running in Trout Lake at the Gorge Cup Invite on Sept. 9, had a strong run last Friday in Umatilla. He finished the 5K race in 17 minutes, 18.2 seconds, cutting around 56 seconds from his previous fastest time on a 5K course.

Bickleton's cross country runners were across the river last Friday in Umatilla competing in the Footrace to Valhalla where the boys combined for a third place team finish while both girls added top-15 finishes.

Led by a fourth and fifth place finish from senior Michael Gannon and sophomore Christian Arriaga, respectively, the Pirate boys finished third out of eight qualifying teams with 81 points, trailing just Heppner (43) and Stanfield (79).

Gannon, who finished in 17:01.1, set a new personal best time on a 5K course, cutting close to a minute off his previous best time which he set at last year's state meet. Arriaga also set a new top time with his 17:18.2 finish. Arriaga shaved ove...
