Klickwood spikers rally past Tribal

October 17, 2018

The Klickwood spikers (Klickitat and Glenwood) fell behind two sets to none in last Thursday’s Greater Columbia Gorge League matchup in Toppenish with Yakama Tribal, but didn’t wither facing elimination.

Falling behind 2-0 after narrowly losing the first 26-24 and falling 25-15 in the second, Klickwood rallied over the last three sets, winning each by a big margin, to knock off the Eagles in their home gym.

The Vandals play picked up after dropping the first two sets, winning easily 25-14 and 25-16 over the third and fourth sets respectively, while forcing a deciding, first to 15, fifth set. They held on in the fifth, winning 15-10 to complete the comeback.

Last Thursday, senior Kinley Troh led Klickwood with team highs of 15 assists and three service aces along with five kills, while junior Brooklyn Emerson added a team-best 10 kills and three blocks. Sophomore Nahaleigh Schuster was strong serving with nine aces while also chipping in 12 assists and four kills.

The Vandals finished 2-0 against Yakama Tribal over the regular season, winning in three sets when they met on Sept. 25 in Glenwood.

Klickwood then was at home over the weekend for Saturday’s game against Glenwood alumni in a back and forth contest against young and old Eagles. Klickwood took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-8 before the alumni team won the third 25-20.

The final two sets were played by the junior varsity team with the first going to the alumni (25-21) and second to Klickwood at 27-25.

In that game, Schuster finished with five aces and three assists, Troh had four kills, two assists, and an ace while junior Savannah Green added three kills and an ace.

Klickwood also was in action Tuesday on the road at Sunnyside Christian, but results weren’t available when the papers were sent out. Klickwood fell in five sets in the first meeting on Sept. 27 in Klickitat.

Klickwood hosts Trout Lake in Klickitat on Thursday starting at 6 p.m. and hosts Bickleton next Tuesday in Glenwood.
