Richard J. Wilson

October 24, 2018

Richard J. Wilson (Dick), 74, of Goldendale succumbed to cancer in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family on Oct. 13, 2018. Dick was born on July 13, 1944, in White City, Oregon, to James and Elizabeth Wilson. He graduated from Eagle Point High School in 1962, Oregon State University in 1966, and he married his high school sweetheart Jan in 1963.

Dick is survived by Jan, his wife of 55 years; daughter Zami Wilson (Chris); son Andrew Wilson (Julianne); grandson Zane; granddaughters Lily-Marie and Raina; and many loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, and extended family. Dick was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and friend.

Dick loved watching his grandchildren play sports, and he loved playing cribbage with his children, anyone who "thought they could win," and especially loved teaching Zane, Lily-Marie and Raina how to play the game.

Dick worked as a mechanical engineer in the aluminum industry until retirement. After retirement, his love of books led him to join the Friends of the Goldendale Library. He truly loved all the time he spent with his grandchildren, taking care of his trees, and traveling the Northwest. His love of the outdoors included viewing waterfalls, exploring geology, our annual family trips to the Stanley area, and hiking in the Cascade Mountains.

At Dick's request, no formal service is scheduled. The family will celebrate Dick's life by hiking into one of his favorite areas in the Cascades.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Nathan Armerding, the people of Klickitat Valley Health, Home Health and Hospice, and Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel for their loving care and support.

In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to Back Pack 4 Kids and the Friends of Goldendale Library.
