Bickleton boys, Trout Lake girls cross country teams win at District 5 Championships

The Pirates take a team picture shortly after last Wednesday's District 5B Championships.

Led by respective third, fourth, and seventh place finishes from Michael Gannon, Christian Arriaga, and Luke Binfet, the Bickleton Pirates boys claimed the District 5 cross country B Championships, holding off five other B schools along the way. Bickleton's two girls also ran to high finishes, with freshman Haylee Andrews finishing sixth and senior Hannah Binfet finishing 15th.

Also running in Pasco, the Trout Lake girls, with five runners in the top 10, claimed the girls District 5 title with third and fourth place finishes from Joanna Peck and Makenna Stock.

Gannon led the way, taking third with his 17:32.81 time, with Arriaga finishing right behind in 17:50.22. Binfet, an eighth grader took seventh for his highest-ever finish with a personal-record time of 18:39.1.

After the three with top 10 finishes, sophomore Hayden Andrews (17th with PR of 19:50.58), Cesareo Arriaga (19th with season record of 20:05.05), Ethan Andrews (35th with season record of 22:41.97), and Scott McBride (44th in 29:48.69) rounded out Bickleton's team of runners.

For the Bickleton girls, Andrews ran the 5K course in 23:02.74 while Binfet came in at 25:41.98.

The Trout Lake girls ran wild, with all five of its runners cracking the top 10. After Peck (21:51.02) and Stock (22:20.26), eighth grader Selah Pearson (PR of 24:07.8 in first HS race), Lydia Harpe (SR of 24:16.1), and Emily Lopez (PR of 24:33.9) followed each other in seventh, eighth, and ninth places respectively. The Mustangs combined for 28 team points, while White Swan was second with 43 and Tri-Cities Prep third with 49.

The Mustang boys, with Gabe Harpe's 10th place mark, finished just behind Bickleton with 67 team points. Harpe finished in 18:53.1, Shane Pearson took 12th with a PR of 19:00, Trevor Collins was 13th with a PR of 19:05.8 in his first high school race, Evan Tattersall recorded a PR with his 19:07.8 time, and Liam McLaughlin was the fifth Mustang boy to finish. He was 18th with a personal-best 19:51.51, and Luke Court came in after in 23rd place with a PR of 20:27.3.

Next up for the Pirates and Mustangs is the District 5/6 B State Qualifying meet in Moses Lake, which starts with the girls race at 3 p.m. and the boys after at 3:45.
