Bickleton runners (in red from left) Michael Gannon, Christian Arriaga, and Luke Binfet, listen to the race director moments before the starting gun sounded during Saturday's Class 1B/2B race.

Pirate senior Michael Gannon closed out his high school cross country career with his highest finish in his three years running at state, while fellow Bickleton runners Christian Arriaga, Luke Binfet, and Haylee Andrews joined him with strong performances of their own during Saturday's meet in Pasco.

Gannon, who has run with the state's best every season since his sophomore year, wrapped up his senior season with a 38th place mark with a time of 17 minutes, 57.2 seconds in the five kilometer run.

Arriaga joined Gannon at state for the second straight year after debuting as a freshman last year and followed seven spots after his teammate in 45th place with a time of 18:01.7.

Arriaga's finish was a huge leap from his first appearance at state last season where he came in at No. 112 out of the 154 person field in 2017. He also shaved off over a minute from his time last year at state.

Making the trip to state along with the two veterans were a pair of first-year runners in Binfet, an eighth grader, and Andrews, a freshman. Binfet was just one of four eighth graders to run in the state meet, finishing in 84th place and recording an 18:38.3 time.

The lone Pirate girl running at state in Pasco, Andrews finished 76th among the field of 116 girls in 23:21.20.
