October 10, 1889 – 129 years ago

A tri-weekly mail service has been established between The Dalles and Centerville in this county. With Darland & Bowers as contractors, and the mail now leaves Goldendale every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at eleven o’clock via Centerville, arriving at The Dalles at five o’clock in the evening.

November 28, 1918 -100 years ago

The two city meat markets have closed down on the credit system. They say they were compelled to, as the way things have been running for some time all the cash they got from the sale of three dead beeves did not suffice to buy one live one. As they were neither bankers nor bloated bondholders, their pile gave out. Hence...
