Doris Ihrig

December 19, 2018

Doris (Dehart) Ihrig passed away peacefully in her home Dec. 11, 2018 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom she loved so dearly.

She was born Dec. 17, 1936, to Ray and Clydell DeHart in Franklin, North Carolina. Her family migrated out to the west coast and settled in Hood River, Oregon, where she attended Wy East High school.

At the age of 17 she went to work in Janzen's Knitting mill in Portland, Oregon, where she met the love of her life, Robert Ihrig, whom she shared the next 62 years of her life.

Three children would soon follow as they built a life in Goldendale through farming, construction, and at one point owning and managing a grocery store in downtown Goldendale that eventually became DeHart's Market. Doris also tried her hand in the clothing business for a few years in Goldendale.

Doris had a variety of interests including painting, crocheting, board games, roller skating, bowling, and teaching herself to play musical instruments. However, family gatherings with sing-alongs were at top of her favorites list, right beside the joy of her relationships with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Doris was a member of the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Goldendale where she served as a faithful member, sharing the love of Jesus through word and deed.

Doris is survived by her husband, Robert R. Ihrig, her children, Debbie Rice and Penny Dyche of Goldendale, and Bob (Bobby) Ihrig of Charlotte, North Carolina. Survivors also include 11 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
