Both the Goldendale boys and girls teams lost in nonleague contests on Saturday at Royal in their last games of 2018 and will be away from the court for nearly two weeks before they play next.

The girls fell 56-24 to the 4-4 overall Knights while the boys dropped an 80-31 decision to the 4-3 Knights on a night where offense was hard to come by for the visitors.

After Saturday's games, Goldendale is off for 13 days, returning for a pair of league contests on Jan. 4 and 5 against Naches and La Salle respectively.

The Naches boys, who finished as the West's No. 2 seed last season before falling in regionals, sit at 6-4 overall and second in the West so far this season. The Ranger girls haven't won a league game yet and are 2-8 overall. Goldendale tips off at home on Jan. 4 with the girls at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30.

The day after they will be in Union Gap for a couple of tough matchups against the Lightning. The La Salle girls haven't lost yet (8-0) and are the No. 2 ranked Class 1A team by the WIAA RPI rankings, while the boys sit 1-1 in league play after falling to Zillah 76-64 last weekend.

The Boys, playing in their fourth game in five days last Tuesday in Cowiche, cruised past the Scotties for their first SCAC West win.

Even on a night where Goldendale's shots weren't particularly falling, the Timberwolves were able to buckle down defensively and hold the Scotties to single digit scoring in each of the first three quarters.

Goldendale shot just 31 percent from the field, including 3 of 17 from 3-point range, but the Scotties weren't any better. Goldendale held them to just 26 percent shooting.
