Feds investigating CenturyLink outage

CENTURYLINK OUTAGES: Areas in which CenturyLink long distance outages occurred Thursday and Friday last week, with red areas hit the hardest. Long distance service was knocked out of Klickitat County, though 9-1-1 was still functioning-making the county one of the few places in the outage areas where emergency service was not down.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is calling CenturyLink's nationwide outage last week "unacceptable," particularly since it shut down 9-1-1 service for almost all of its affected areas, although not in Klickitat County. Friday the FCC announced it was investigating CenturyLink's outage and why it was taking so long to correct it. (Service was finally restored Friday morning.)

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said Friday, "When an emergency strikes, it's critical that Americans are able to use 9-1-1 to reach those who can help. The CenturyLink service outage is therefore completely unacceptable, and its breadth and duration are particularly troubling."
