December 7, 1898 – 121 Years Ago

The surveyors of the Columbia Southern Railroad, now surveying between here and Lyle, have decided to go down Swale Canyon, instead of through High Prairie. This makes a longer distance to Lyle, but assures an easy climb into the valley. A loaded train can start in the valley and go down-hill all the way by taking the Swale canyon route.

January 9, 1919 – 100 Years Ago

A number of impromptu lighting systems went into effect the past week when the town was temporarily in darkness. The Donner barber shop had a wire strung from the McKenzie Hardware store, where a lighting plant is on demonstration. The plant lighted both business places while...
