Karen Lynn Gallegos, 69, was born Sept. 5, 1949 in Yakima, Washington, to Donald G. and Mary E. (Letlow) Quantrell. She passed away at home in Goldendale on Jan. 13, 2019 due to a sudden illness.

Karen grew up in the Yakima Valley graduating from Naches High School in 1967. She met Richard J. Gallegos while he was stationed at the Yakima Firing Center. They married on Aug. 24, 1968 in Los Angeles, California, and recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

While living in Los Angeles, Karen and Richard welcomed their son, Richard Manual, in 1969. Karen spent much of her career working in the banking industry in the Yakima Valley, Goldendale, and New Mexico.

Karen was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Her favorite pastimes included bowling, gardening, and playing games. On many occasions Karen used her infectious laughter to win the fast-paced card games she loved to play with her family.

Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Mary E. Quantrell. She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Gallegos, of Goldendale; her son, Richard Manual (Melissa) Gallegos, and grandchildren, Kelsey and Jacob, of Garfield, Washington; her father, Donald Quantrell, of Goldendale; siblings, Ken (Cindy) Quantrell, Vicki (Ed) Woodruff, Mike (Elaine) Quantrell, Eric (Alita) Quantrell, and Paula (Dale) Ransom, all of Goldendale, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goldendale. The service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019. Private interment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
