Robert Matthew "Matt" Crocker passed away at the age of 73 on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019 in Yakima, Washington. Matt was the eldest son of Stanley and Noreen Crocker of Centerville, Washington. He was the brother of Joel and John Crocker.

Matt was born on May 27, 1945 in Goldendale. He attended Centerville Grade School and graduated from Goldendale High School in 1963 were he enjoyed playing both basketball and baseball. In his youth, Matt became an avid golfer and was heavily involved in showing the families Hereford cattle, winning Grand Champion at the Junior PI. After high school, Matt attended Central Washington University and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

After college, Matt traveled to California pursuing his passion and skills working as a racehorse trainer. Over the next several years he traveled and trained at tracks in California, Seattle, Spokane, and Yakima.

Matt met his wife, Jan Crocker (Bates), a nurse from British Columbia, through mutual friends, and they were married in 1982 and eventually established their home, of 38 years, in Moxee, Washington. During his 15 retirement years, Matt worked part-time at Apple Tree Country Club, playing many hours of golf and becoming highly involved in the Junior Golf program. He was known for his quiet, friendly ways and spent many hours engaged in conversations with local golf enthusiasts and members.

Matt was a wonderful, patient husband, a friend to many, and adored by his nieces, nephews and their children. He had a quiet, gentle way about him and will be remembered for his genuine interest in hearing about what his friends and family were up to. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
