January 25, 1899 – 120 Years Ago

It is a shame, a burning shame, that the streets of Goldendale, with all the advantages for draining, with all the work that has been put on them in the past years, are in such conditions as they are today. Road work is done every year that amounts to nothing, where, if put in proper places, would last for all time. We might make a failure of it, but would like to be “road boss” in this town for about one years. We wouldn’t do any of the work. The marshal could do the work and draw the pay, but we would want it done our way. Any time the street committee wasn’t satisfied, we’d gladly resign.
