1639 county meeting sparks comment

It may have been icy outside the Grange Hall last Tuesday, but inside the temperature rose as citizens gathered to discuss I-1639. The law is a hot topic in Klickitat County, and law enforcers in 21 other counties have publicly stated that they will not enforce the measure.

The meeting was scheduled because the regular comment portion of a packed commissioners meeting on Jan. 22 lasted only 30 minutes, not enough time to allow all interested parties to comment on the issue. The Grange Hall event was specifically designed for public comment on I-1639 and ran for two hours, providing more time for the public to weigh in.
