February 15, 1899 – 120 Years ago

Yesterday afternoon a large number of skaters witnessed with interest the leading of a team of horses across the Columbia at this place from Washington to the Oregon shore. It was with difficulty that they were induced to start across, but when once started they came without any trouble. The ice is sufficiently thick to bear up a team and a wagon as it showed no signs of breaking at any point over which the horses traveled.
