Pioneer Museum holds branding party

BRAND NAMES: The Bickleton Pioneer Museum hosted a branding party Saturday as part of the museum's effort to preserve the history of area brands.

On Sunday, March 24, the Alder Creek Pioneer Carousel Museum in Bickleton held a branding party for eastern Klickitat County farmers and cattlemen past and present.

A generous donor used his woodshop to construct the branding boards, and two stoves and a generator heated the irons. The snow piles were pushed away, and under a partly cloudy sky, 86 boards were branded. Many of the brands were burned by the owners themselves and others by some of the cowpokes on hand to help. It is a project of the museum to preserve the history and age of brands of the area and then use the beautiful boards in the museum for display.

As the brands have been gathered, stories have emerged of who had which...
