Rosemary C. (Hatfield) Woodward

Aug. 31, 1926 – Sept. 7, 2018

Rosemary was born to John and Ruth Hatfield at Blockhouse, Washington, near Goldendale in 1926. She graduated from Goldendale High School in 1943.

Rosemary married Dan Barbee in 1947. Her son David was born in 1948. Later Rosemary married John Woodward. They had Candace and later Jack. The family lived at Blockhouse until moving to Wenatchee in 1970.

She was employed at Goldendale Tol’s Cafe and the Simcoe Café, in Longview at the Fiber, and in Wenatchee at the Chelan County Assessor’s office and Treasurer’s office.

Rosemary enjoyed picking things, especially if they were free and tasty. That included mushrooms, huckleberries, asparagus, and apples. Going for a drive was always a treat. Mom was known as a good sport. She was a staunch supporter of her kids’ and grandkids’ activities and athletics.

Rosemary was proud of her Hatfield ancestry. She had an independent and pioneer spirit. She appreciated the bounty of nature and began fishing and hunting at an early age. She hunted deer into her 70s. She liked to laugh and always enjoyed a good joke. Mom will always be remembered by how much she loved her family and friends.

She is survived by her three children: David (Diana) Barbee of Pullman, Washington, Candace Woodward of Edmonds, Washington, and Jack (Kerill) Woodward of East Wenatchee, Washington.

Her grandchildren include Abby (Matt) Shirey and Ruth Barbee. Amy Lind, Heather Newman and Danielle (Brad) Womble, and Joshua, Samuel and Noah Woodward; her brother Johnny Hatfield of Tampa, Florida, and his family—Robert Hatfield, Richard Hatfield (deceased), Barbara Hatfield and Karen McDonald; plus numerous great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held at the Wenatchee First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019.
