March 2019 was coldest on record in Goldendale

According to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton Oregon, temperatures at Goldendale averaged much colder than normal during the month of March.

The average temperature was 30.8 degrees which was 10.8 degrees below normal. High Temperatures averaged 41.5 degrees, which was 10.9 degrees below normal. The highest was 59 degrees on the 31st. Low temperatures averaged 20.1 degrees, which was 10.7 degrees below normal. The lowest was -4 degrees, on the 5th.

There were 25 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees. There were 8 days when the high temperature stayed below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.52 inches during March, which was 0.96 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation -at least .01 inch- was received on 7 days with the heaviest, 0.20 inches reported on the 7th.

Precipitation this year has reached 5.71 inches, which is 0.78 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Goldendale has been 11.96 inches, which is 1.86 inches below normal.

Snowfall totaled 4.4 inches with at least 1 inch of snow reported on 2 days. The heaviest snowfall was 2.2 inches reported on the 12th. The greatest depth of snow on the ground was 18 inches on the 7th.

The outlook for April from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures and above normal precipitation. Normal highs for Goldendale rise from 57.0 degrees at the start of April to 64.0 degrees at the end of April. Normal lows rise from 32.0 degrees to 36.0 degrees. The 30 year normal precipitation is 1.00 inches.

This was the coldest March on record. The previous coldest was 35.3 degrees in 1955
