New citizen took a long, hard path

For Magda Delateur, originally from the Philippines, has just completed the long, hard journey an immigrant must take to become a naturalized citizen of the United States. Delateur came to Goldendale in 2015 to join her husband, who had already been living and working here for 7 years. After she arrived, she immediately took the first step to naturalization, which was to determine if she was eligible for citizenship.

The basic qualifications are that a person be at least 18 years old and have been a permanent resident in the U.S. for at least five years, or three years if married to a U.S. citizen. Before applicants are considered for naturalization, they need to have held a green card fo...
