Honoring those now passed

April 17, 2019

As I write this, it is Palm Sunday, and we know how that turned out for our beloved Jesus, but today I received news of special people who have gone to be with Him. First I opened Facebook to find that a special lady, Lana Lay passed away on April 12, and then during church service the pastor got a call that one of our own, 19-year-old Erica Kuneki, just lost her battle with cancer. After I returned home from church I heard that my dear friend and neighbor, Bill Grandstaff, passed away last Wednesday April 10 (didn’t hear or see anything to make me aware of it) and to add to all that, I was told an old friend and schoolmate, Larry Kintzley, passed last March. Whoa! Enough already! At my age I should realize that life is short, and the Christian outcome is something to look forward to, but it seems to hit harder when it is so close to home and loved ones. I just want to express my heartfelt condolences to each of the families and let them know that I feel that all of these souls are now in the arms of Jesus.

On a far lighter note—do you hear the thumping? Listen: hear it now? It’s Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail, hippity hopping to the Lyle Park on April 20 at 11 a.m. All children under 10 are welcome to come find all the candy that he had the Lion’s Club help him tuck between blades of the green grass, and maybe if he’s still around, get their picture taken with him. So, Mom, Dad, bring your camera for a memento for the kiddy’s baby book. They still make them now, don’t they?

The Lyle School has implemented a new, safer way to enter the school grounds. According to the map on their website, you will now enter the upper parking lot, the one closest to the football field, and drive in a right-turning, circular pattern around the building and then exit out the lower parking lot. One way in, one way out. Check out their webpage at: lyleschools.org and find this statement. “This new traffic pattern will be put in place on Monday, April 15, and is in effect before 9 a.m. and after 2 p.m. daily.”

My wish for you all this month is to have a blessed Easter, celebrating it in your own family traditions. This is another one of those “Reason for the Season” celebrations for Christians and a good time to count your blessings. Do I get an “Amen”?
