Council hears of rise in crime calls

The Goldendale City Council met Monday night in an abbreviated session with an abbreviated group, following the resignation of Councilor Carmen Knopes. In the absence of Mayor Mike Canon, Councilor Guy Theriault clipped through the bare-bones agenda in a mere 18 minutes.

Police Chief Reggie Bartkowski reported that the department had received 839 calls so far this year, compared to 708 calls at the same time last year, an increase of more than 15 percent. He said there were no increases in any specific kind of calls, that all categories were up.

City Administrator Larry Bellamy announced that Goldendale was one of 114 cities to win a Well Cities award. That recognition, he said, was worth...
