They're Off

On a recent blustery Sunday morning, 100 cyclists from around the state gathered in Goldendale to participate in a 90-mile endurance ride through the back county of Klickitat Country. The nationally known Gran Fondo Goldendale (Italian for "Big Ride") started at the high school, traveled north on Pine Forest Road, then turned south through Centerville, on to Lyle, and they finished up by peddling their way back to Goldendale on the steep and grueling Lyle Grade. Normally thought of as young person's sport, the event attracted many riders last year who were in their late 50s and early 60s.
