TOWERS OF OPPORTUNITY: The Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas hosted the country's first national conference on Economic Opportunity Zones (OZs) last week, and The Sentinel was there.

The wizards of OZ were all in Vegas last week.

"OZ" (that's "Oh-Zee") is the hot new buzz word in investment these days. It refers to Economic Opportunity Zones, truncated nowadays to the shorter Opportunity Zones and even further to OZs. It's a new federal tax incentive program designed to spur economic growth in distressed areas-designated as OZs by the governors of every state-by allowing investors with capital gains to invest those gains into business opportunities in the OZs that then allow huge tax reductions on the capital gains. Leave the money for five years, you save 10 percent on taxes; leave it for seven years, and you save 15 percent. Leave the money in for 10 years, you pay...
