Goldendale's Kelli and Kristin Bighorn are headed to the Yakima Tennis Club for the 1A high school state championship after taking home the doubles titles at the SCAC West sub-district tennis tournament last Monday. The pair prevailed again in the district championship at Connell High School on Friday and Saturday, May 17-18. Alden Bothamley will go to Yakima as fifth alternate. Granger seniors Trennen Slade and Naya Roettger swept the singles titles at the SCAC West sub district tennis tournament on Monday. Both top-seeded, Slade and Roettger didn't drop a set in three matches. La Salle's Tommy Vargas and Joe Morrier captured the boys' doubles title.

GHS Track and Field

On Friday, May 17, at Cle Elum, Elie Rising delivered another outstanding performance, taking first in the 800 and 1600 meters. Tiana Watson continued her dominance in javelin, placing first with a throw of 123-06. Kim Chestnut turned in a good performance to come in third in the 3200 meters with a time of 12:44.54. On the boys' side, Cameron Mains, Andrew Lund, and Nicholas Lee all turned in personal records.

Bickleton Track and Field

The Bickleton Pirate boys track team has earned the State Academic Championship for 1B boys track and field. The eleven participants on the team had a 3.723 overall team GPA. The team will be honored at the 1B Championships in Cheney on May 24. The Pirate girls track team earned 3rd place among all 1B girls track teams. This is the fourth team academic award the Pirates have earned this year. Earlier this year, boys cross country was 2nd and boys basketball was 7th.

The WIAA Scholastic Award program recognizes and rewards teams that maintain a high collective academic standard. In addition, the team/group with the highest average GPA for their activities and classification level is recognized as Academic State Champion. The Bickleton Pirates are currently ranked 12th out of 81 B schools.
